Dali Transformer Factory Theatrical District, a captivating transformation of a once-abandoned transformer factory, is nestled on the southwest shores of Erhai Lake, adjacent to the ancient citadel of Dali. This architectural marvel, spanning 13,358 square meters, was completed in 2023. The project is a testament to the visionary collaboration between Atelier Alter Architects and a diverse team of professionals. Led by Yingfan Zhang and Xiaojun Bu, the team includes Zhenwei Li, Ping Jiang, Si Miao, Teng Xue, Xinchen Yang, Yalan Tan, Jiaming Mei, Lidong Song, Li Jiang, Chunbiao Cao, Zhen Ni, Xiaoyan Liu, and Jiayan Duan. The project's design and execution were meticulously handled by Beijing Institute of Architectural Design Co., Ltd., with Run Zhou and Kai Qin as the architects of record. Wei Kong, Yan Pei, and Han Bai contributed to the architectural design, while Wenfeng Li, Xingwang Li, and Jun Liu designed the structural elements. Feng Qi, Lei Pei, Cheng Zhang, Yuting Li, and Lin Jie were responsible for the mechanical and electrical engineering, ensuring the building's functionality. Jinjing Chen and Shuyun Wu focused on the sound design, creating an immersive experience. Guangzhou Bosha Institute of Architectural Design Co., Ltd. led the interior design, with Jian Song as the interior leader and Zhijun Zheng, Li Wen, Zhiyuan Liang, and Junkan Wei as the interior team. Xinzhi Chen and Yuyan Xie handled the interior engineering. YZscape, under the leadership of Fanyu Meng, designed the landscape, with Miaomiao Guan, Teng Wang, Zhenyu Wang, Zihan Zhao, Yue Hao, and Ying Zhou contributing to the landscape team. MOUJITI ART+TECH, led by Jun Fei, brought the new media art to life, with a dedicated team of artists. Tao Xiangju Film and Television Studio in Ningbo Xiangbao Cooperation Zone collaborated on the stage design, while GD Lighting Design crafted the lighting, and Degradation Design Laboratory and Chongqing Yinqiao Engineering Design (Group) Co., Ltd. provided consultancy services for signage and curtain walls. The Dali Transformer Factory Theatrical District is a testament to the power of architectural transformation, offering a unique blend of theater, new media art, and multi-sensory experiences within the historic context of Dali.
